1. Overview

Couple Widget ("we", "our", or "the app") is an iOS application designed for two paired partners to share doodles, photos, an anniversary counter, and a private emoji journal on their iPhone home and lock screens. We take your privacy seriously. This policy explains what data is collected, how it is used, and your rights as a user.

Short version: your shared content (doodles, photos, journal entries, counter) syncs through your own iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit — it never touches a server we own. The only data we may collect is anonymous, aggregated usage analytics to help us improve the app. We never sell your data and we never link it to your identity.

2. Data stored on your device

The following data is stored on your iPhone using Apple's SwiftData framework:

  • Your name, gender, birthday and anniversary date (entered during onboarding)
  • Your background colour and personalisation choices
  • Notification preferences
  • Cached information about your paired partner (name, birthday)

This data is local-first. Most of it is never uploaded to any server we control.

3. Shared data via Apple's CloudKit

Once you pair with a partner, the following data is synchronised between the two of you using Apple's CloudKit (the storage layer behind iCloud):

  • Your hand-drawn doodles and emoji status
  • Daily photos you choose to add to the polaroid timeline
  • Your shared anniversary date and counters
  • Your shared private journal (inside jokes, custom emoji legends)
  • Quick reactions you send to each other

This data is stored inside your own iCloud account, governed by Apple's privacy policy. We do not run our own backend; we cannot read your shared content. If you sign out of iCloud or delete the app, that data is removed from your device but may remain in your iCloud account until you remove it through Apple's tools.

4. Home screen and lock screen widgets

Couple Widget includes home screen and lock screen widgets. To display data in the widget, the app uses Apple's App Group mechanism — a shared local storage area between the app and the widget extension. This data lives on your device only and is never transmitted by us.

5. Pairing

Pairing is done through a 6-character code or a shareable link. The pairing record is held in Apple's CloudKit so that both partners' devices can find each other. We do not store who is paired with whom on any server we control. You can unpair at any time from the app's settings.

6. Purchases

Couple Widget may offer optional in-app purchases (such as a Couple Widget Pro subscription) processed entirely by Apple via StoreKit. Subscription receipts are validated through RevenueCat, which receives an anonymous app-user identifier and the App Store receipt — never your name, email, or payment information. We do not store, handle, or have access to your payment details. Please refer to Apple's Privacy Policy and RevenueCat's Privacy Policy for details.

7. Analytics

Couple Widget may collect anonymous, aggregated product-interaction events (for example: which onboarding step you viewed, when you completed pairing, which feature you tapped) to help us improve the app, identify bugs, and prioritise new features.

What analytics never include:

  • Your name, email, or any account identifier — Couple Widget has no user accounts of its own
  • The content of your doodles, photos, or journal entries
  • Your partner's identity
  • Your precise location
  • Payment details

Analytics data is not linked to your real-world identity and is not used to track you across other apps or websites. We do not share this data with advertisers or data brokers.

8. Notifications

If you grant permission, Couple Widget sends notifications to let you know your partner has sent a new doodle, reacted, or hit a milestone. These notifications are delivered through Apple Push Notification service (APNs) and contain only the minimum content needed to render them. We do not log notification content beyond what Apple's standard delivery requires.

9. Photos & camera

When you choose to add a photo to the polaroid timeline, Couple Widget asks for permission to access the photo you select (or your camera if you take a new one). The app only accesses what you pick — never your full library. Photos you add are uploaded to your iCloud-synced shared zone so your partner can see them, and never to a server we own.

10. Children's privacy

Couple Widget is intended for users aged 13 and up. We do not knowingly collect any data from children under 13.

11. Your rights

You can delete your local data at any time by deleting the app, and your shared data by unpairing and removing it through your iCloud settings. If you'd like us to confirm deletion of any analytics records associated with your installation, contact us at the address below.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
